Bought the 1988 Toyota 4Runner 3.0 years ago. 
Things done since then
New professional paint Job and repair of some of the rust around the wheel wells. I've showed pictures where there might be problem.
New professional sound system including an Android stereo, 6.5 components in the front door with inch tweeters. 6x9 by the rear seats, an amp behind the stereo (to protect from weather) and powered subwoofer (works well but removed because I'm not as young as used to be, included with the truck).
New charcoal carpet, professionally installed. Carpet has holes in the passenger area floor to drain water when the top is off.
New professionally done door panels and rear seat side panels. Gray marine vinyl with charcoal accents at the top of the front doors. Wanted it to withstand the elements since take the to off for the summer.
New professionally done black rubber windshield trim (and new windshield). have the original trim if needed.
Installed second generation center console set. Original center console with heater comes with the truck. Heating lines have been disconnected, but can be reconnected.
New clear side, rear and turning lights. New LED headlights.
New Dash Cap. never got around to glueing it down. It stays pretty securely in place so don't worry about it. You can see it in the picture.
New interior light
New Seat Covers
New painted windowless half top.
5 new tires
The good:
Runs well. It's been my daily driver for years. While only drive 10 or so city miles round-trip to work, have driven at 85 on the highway no problem.
I have never taken it off road, but have engaged 4WD few times to see if it works. It works. am not aware of the habits of the previous owner(s)
I've got some extra parts that come with the truck. Some are in the pictures, others are mentioned in the description. 
The real:
I take the top off in the summer. The top has sealed well when put back on.
The seats are in pretty good condition, the drivers seat is the worst. took off the seat cover for the drivers seat to show how it looks. can take the seat covers off for all upon request.
I painted the wheels black and there is some chipping.
The passenger seat does not slide forward, this is known issue for these runners.
The back window does not go down using the key in the tailgate. The console switch for the back window works.
Rear bumper is dented. It was dented when got it.
The why:
It's just time. want to do something different.
